Finding a great Database Architect is a challenging task. I stumbled across a recent post by marketing guru Seth Godin which happened to touch on this and lumped DB Architects in with some rarefied company:
...the unemployment rate for skilled neurosurgeons, talented database designers and motivated recombinant DNA biologists is essentially zero, despite the high pay in all three fields.
Bottom line: if you're in the field already keep your skills sharp. If you're aspiring to the title, charge ahead, there is always demand at the top!
